How I Met the Lord-80 Proof

I've been going through some things, among them excruciating back pain. It wasn't unmanageable until this black dude fell backwards onto me on a crowded dance floor.

I landed hard flat on my back. He landed right on top of me. It took this guy a little while to move, and I shoved him off. It was all down hill from there. One thing led to another and my doctor recommended a chiropractor. She had a free coupon for an assessment an one treatment. I've been taking muscle relaxants and pacing the floor in pain all night. The narcotics prescribed for pain were messing up my system so bad, nothing was working anymore.

Too Much Information.

Well, my sister believes in the natural remedies of whiskey. I'm not a teetotaler, but reluctant to take anything heavier than a rare light beer, maybe a tiny glass of wine.
Hell, I've tried everything else, so why not

Last night, three shots later, it taking me about an hour and a half to get that down, I manage to get myself upstairs, into bed and pass out quietly. I never slept so good in my life.

The name of the whiskey is The Lord!  I love it. Being a recovering pentecostal ex-wife, I am nearly an atheist, have a tendency towards alternate religions including multiple gods who love to mess with us on a regular basis.

So, after meeting The Lord, finally getting my days and nights back on track after 2 weeks of total reversal, I'd like to recommend this natural remedy as a serious alternative to the nasty drugs the pharmaceuticals are handing out.

I am on track for a full restoration of wilderness adventures!

Nevada Minimalism-Landscaping Video

We still need the rock, and to plant the irises, but this video should show some of our techniques. I shot one earlier this week, but couldn't get it to upload. I guess it was too long.

My sister and I had fun doing it. It started with having to take down the fence. We sawed two sections down with the bow saw, then utilized those pieces to repair the sections we decided to keep.

I'm all about why buy it if you already have it.

Biggest Little Town in the World

Last night we got the grand tour of a three plex casino in downtown Reno. Driving under the arch, past the dome, and through the fantastically lit streets of midnight Reno, I asked how they felt it compared to Vegas. Someone once told me they considered Reno the Redneck version of Vegas.
My companions begged to differ, saying Vegas was more redneck. I've been in both, and I'd say it feels more family atmosphere here. Haven't gambled in either. Just walking around, seeing some kids, and not the desperation like Vegas had.
We parked with a gold pass, having a possessor of such as our tour guide. He is a DJ for special events and knew his way around.

The Three Casinos, The Eldorado, Silvery Legacy and Circus World were simply, extravagantly gorgeous. No two ways about it. Stained glass ceilings, multi leveled play areas, complete with slot machines and tables, dining areas, various bars, and a circus atmosphere were one of the guys paid for us to hammer away in a contest: who can get 40 balls into a slot, thereby winning a stuffed animal. Its all about the stuffed animals, or stuffed bananas. Strange massive yellow furry bananas. They would make a great pillow.

The elevator and dome ceiling must be seen for its impact, a massive green artful rendition of coal mining excavation. A huge green wheel caught my eye as it rotated, a backdrop of realistic blue clouds painted in the dome, mechanical themes, a sculpture really, an elevator we road in, looking out on this fantastic gallery.

But, really we came for the band, the live music promised down at the Brew Brothers. First stopping by a digital sound system blasting away so loud insanity was the eventual outcome, we claimed a table, bought two dollar draft beers and found a table in the back. Soon we left, those gyrating to that were kids willing to loose their hearing. We sought fewer decibels and carried our two dollar draft beers right out with us.

A green line painted on the floor lets you know when you are moving from one casino into another.

Down at the Brew Brothers a jam session was going on. We found our table, dropped our leather jackets and hit the dance floor. The woman really knew how to sing, husky voice in a slow dirty dancing sort of way  brought out the worst in us.  It was Fun.

Between the table and the floor, our party spent a quick hour. Eventually a bouncer came around and told us it was closing time. I asked if that meant like 5 minutes, we were just finishing our beers. He said you can take it with you. It meant now. So we did.

Dancing the second night in a row will take its toll. I'm deeming today Be Good to Your Body Day, April 9th.

Join  me.

Landscaping Minimalism- Nevada Style

Out here in the desert climes, its either water, water and more water, or go the Rock way. My sister's home sits on a corner lot, quite lovely and spacious. She's tired of pulling the hose around couple times a week just to make the thing stay green. We embarked on the minimalist-no maintenance approach.

Using material she already owned, with an eye toward beauty, theme and frugality, we began rearranging everything. She has two lovely trees. They shed leaves every fall. What if she could let some of those leaves lay as a ground cover? Now, local flora is utilized when possible, stuff she can dig up from a friend's mountain property and transplant in her yard. We used well worn logs, gathered at some previous date for firewood, not yet cut into sections. These logs provide borders, set the theme for natural, organic movement through out the yard.

The black tarp was used instead of storing it for some unforeseen purpose. I always ask, if you already have the item, why go out and buy one just like it, storing the first one indefinitely. Minimize! Hell yeah.

In the future, my sister will only have a few trees to water, a few plants, surrounded by beautiful natural stone and rock.

Dancing and Stuff

Apparently Reno and Area is a 24-7 kind of place. I've been going out with my sister and friends, and we can stay out all night, into the morning, then work and do it all over again.

Pretty fun, but how does it not catch up to a person?

I love dancing and there's plenty of opportunity for that. One great joint is called the Nugget.  A band at one place, then across the casino is a disco kind of party going on. Of course, meanwhile people are gambling, walking around, cruising for fun.

Wild.

Now, I am looking forward to getting back in the wilderness. I don't shop. The most I do is look for a rug and some bananas, then I'm outta there. But, let me see a trail wandering somewhere, up a hill, across a park, I'm on it. I need wilderness. Cars make a gal a tad nervous.

So, surviving in this area is a challenge for those inclined to trees and winding paths. I hike down by a creek bordered by two roads, all traffic speeding by on the way to or from work, scattered litter and many ducks help break up any boredom.

I can't wait to get back to the National Park seasonal work.
